Below are the YA books coming out this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.
These are books for the week of October 11th-October 17th that I have pre-ordered.

I can’t believe Awake at Dawn is finally out and it downloaded early on my Kindle! A total win. I loved Born at Midnight which I had a chance to read early thanks to the publisher, but I’ve had the very long wait for this sequel’s release. I’d been stalking it on Amazon and the moment it was available to pre-order I did. So all I had to do at that point was wait. And wait some more.
Even with the short story about Della, it wasn’t enough to bridge the gap between the first book and this one. I feel like I’ve been waiting forever, so I may just have to take a quick peek at just a few chapters even though I won’t be able to read it this week.
As I already spotlighted this for my Book Watch post, I won’t go into too long a ramble. But I’m super curious to see what happens with Derek and my favorite – Lucas. And I hope things aren’t left on too big a cliff, especially since Taken at Dusk won’t be out until April of next year.
This series has tons of action and is just so fun to read. And this installment looks to be super exciting. And with ghosts, rogue vampires, half-faeries and werewolves, there is no shortage of paranormals to love.
Deadly Cool by Gemma Halliday releases in the U.S. today, October 11, 2011, in paperback and eBook format. It is currently available to order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 320 pages.

Deadly Cool is another book I’ve been dying to read. Even though I had the ARC – which sadly I haven’t had a chance to read yet – I’ve had the eBook on my list of pre-orders for quite some time.
I’ve mentioned it before, but I love the fact that this story is a murder mystery and the main character sounds to be completely sarcastic. From the description, though, her predicament does sound unbelievably annoying. What girlfriend would want to be responsible for helping their cheating boyfriend clear his name? Not too many.
So, I really can’t wait to meet her, see what her reactions are to her boyfriend’s situation and find out if she is in fact intended as the killer’s next victim.
Unforsaken by Sophie Littlefield was released today, October 11, 2011, in the U.S. in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
Published by Delacorte Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 288 pages.
Unforsaken is the sequel to Banished by author Sophie Littlefield.

I am guilty of not yet having read the first book in the series, Banished, but I knew I’d want Unforsaken since I’ve owned an eBook of Banished for awhile. So, of course I added this to my list of pre-orders with the hope of reading both books back-to-back. While that might not happen as soon as I’d hoped, I definitely plan on reading both of these books.
From the description, which I did read for this sequel, it sounds like there is quite a bit of history with the Banished. But what I find most intriguing is the fact that the main character is a healer who can apparently create zombies if her timing is off.
In this sequel, according to the description, things have settled down after the events in book one, but not for too long. Hailey is once again thrown into a pretty dangerous situation as the man who is trying to track her down is made aware of her location.
I am definitely excited to read both of these books, as the world author Sophie Littlefield created in this series sounds like it could be pretty danger-filled and action-packed.
Tris & Izzie by Mette Ivie Harrison was released in the U.S. today, October 11, 2011 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online at Amazon and Barnes & Noble in both formats.
Published by EgmontUSA, the print edition is 272 pages.

I have had this book on my list of pre-orders for the Kindle for awhile. I was excited about the gorgeous cover and the fact that it is a modern retelling of Tristan and Isolde a favorite story of my mother’s and one I have always loved, both in print and on screen.
I did not get a chance to read it on NetGalley, as I’m seriously behind on my NG reviews, and I may have traded for an ARC but haven’t yet received it, so I will probably be reading the eBook that downloaded early this morning. I’m just not certain how close to the top of my pile that I’ll be able to put this book.
This updated version of the story is about a girl named Izzie who accidentally takes a love potion meant for her friend and ends up falling in love with the new boy Tristan. As she already has a boyfriend, this, of course, is not ideal.
I am not sure what to expect with this new version of the story as I have heard some chatter that it didn’t meet everyone’s expectations, but as the story of Tristan and Isolde is one that I’ve loved for many years, I’d like to read this one for myself and be my own judge.
Audition by Stasia Ward Kehoe will be released in the U.S. on October 13, 2011 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
Published by Viking Juvenile, a division of Penguin Group, the print edition is 458 pages.
Audition is one of the books that can be chosen for the 2011 Debut Author Challenge hosted by Kristi at TheStorySiren.com.

I traded for an early copy of this book awhile back, but then knew I’d run out of time to read it before release day, so I passed it along. But I’m glad that the eBook will be downloading on Thursday as I really do want to read this romantic story, which is told in verse.
I haven’t read very many books told in verse, but this one just sounds so beautiful. It is the story of a girl, Sara, who leaves home to study ballet, but finds that she is terribly lonely until she meets a choreographer named Rem. This story is not just about the romance, however. Sara finds that she is passionate about writing and is unsure whether pursuing dance is truly what she wants out of life.
I’m curious to see whether her dreams have changed and if she decides to leave the life she thought she wanted in order to pursue this new one.

Other books releasing this week to note:
Bunheads by Sophie Flack – October 10, 2011 – Amazon, Barnes & Noble
Frost (Stork #2) by Wendy Delsol – October 11, 2011 – Amazon, Barnes & Noble
The Death Cure (The Maze Runner Trilogy) by James Dashner – October 11, 2011 – Amazon, Barnes & Noble

It’s been another five book week, but only three of the five are books I can put anywhere close to the top of the pile. Although Awake at Dawn and Deadly Cool are two books I’d love have at the very top, rather than just close to the top.
Now that the final James Dashner book is out in The Maze Runner Trilogy I’m definitely thinking of picking up the set. But as I still haven’t read The Hunger Games, I think that series must come first.
And I’ve been super excited for Frost by Wendy Delsol for some time, but what I hadn’t initially realized is that it is a sequel and I haven’t even read book one. So, while I will be purchasing this book eventually, for now I’ve decided to wait until I’ve read Stork before I grab a copy of this second book in the series.
The next two weeks will be interesting, as I know there will be quite a few more pre-orders each week than the five books I have listed above. I can’t wait for that rainy day when I can sit down and tackle my ever growing TBR pile and catch up on a few “dying to read” books. I’m still hoping that will happen this December.
